My sister Janet Donaldson from Rocky Branch recommended this book to me. She thought I would like it since I love history and it is about local history as well as Civil War era history. She was absolutely correct. I love the book. It was interesting from page one and kept my interest through the end. A very well written book. I loved it and have recommened it to several friends and family members. I bought the book from Amazon for my kindle and read it that way but Janet bought the book for me and had you sign it. Thank you so much and I will treasure it highly.

[...] Kelby Ouchley, an author who also has a radio program on Louisiana Public Radio, has just come out with a masterful collection of essays on the natural history of Louisiana, entitled Bayou-Diversity (LSU Press). Even if you’re not from Bayou country, it is worth your attention as a work of literature. Nothing escapes Ouchley’s attention: ticks, lightning, stray cats, oil spills, sluggish water, snakebite myths and remedies, the origin of his great-grandmother’s rocking chair. At the heart is an acute understanding of Louisiana ecology–how it works and should work. The essays are beautifully written: thermal wind currents are ‘bubbles of air that serve as elevators for raptors.’ In five paragraphs, Ouchley completely changed my understanding of teeth. I haven’t enjoyed or learned so much about the natural history of a place since I read Aldo Leopold’s A Sand County Almanac. –Phillip Hoose Like this:LikeBe the first to like this post.
Kelby, I always enjoy Bayou Diversity, but I was particularly interested in your presentation on KEDM on Thursday, July 21, which I only caught the last part of and am not 100% sure of the overall content, but it was intriguing to me. You spoke on a subject which is a major concern of mine about the contentiousness with which people of differing opinions play loosely with the facts and I believe that you quoted Daniel Patrick Moynihan. I called KEDM about getting a replay, but archived issues stop with 6/20 about the Blue Jay. If I must wait until this issue is archived, I will, but would appreciate getting a replay of this presentation.
Thanks!

Reading these lines and then closing my eyes and I am just able to reach out and touch the memories of his descriptions. Beautiful. Every line of this holds a special memory for me in one way or another. I did not appreciate this fully in life until I could no longer physically do these things. Thank God I still have my cognitive skills even though they are limited.

Thanks for sending this Leslie.
